My artwork comes from a deep emotional connection to the beauty and nuances of nature. Recently, my approach to painting is more about memories and experiences than literal representation. My work is abstracted from nature, from its landscapes and moods. Through the language of painting, my feelings, responses and ideas then become tangible. As a painting develops it becomes a conversation with colors, textures, layering and mark-making that takes on personal and artistic significance. Spontaneity, exploration and thoughtfulness guide my way. As with most forms of exploration, it’s a journey into uncharted territory, both in terms of what happens with the paint and with what I discover about myself in the process. A sense of inner spaciousness, which I access by meditation or by being outdoors, is what fuels my creativity. In turn, it’s my painting which allows me to express my spiritual and emotional relationships with the natural world, feeding my soul in the process.
